Water Sector
Test description for the water sector
- Pressure reduction during non peak hours (will save 10 to 12 MLD)
- Implementation of additional water sources such as deepwells, water treatment plants
- Immediate repair of leaks for the NRW recovery
- Deployment of Standby water tankers
- MWSS created a customer call hub
- On-going operation of the LLO, to ensure the functionality of the facility on the eventuality that the water level drops below 180 meters.
- Informative drives about El Nino and water conservation
- Regular inspection of pumping water level by regular measuring (Production Data)
- Implementation of Water rationing on a schedule basis
- Water truck delivery in areas of no water supply
- Reduction of NRW systems (e.g. Prompt repair of leakages, check illegal connections)
- Adopt conservation measures (reduce, reuse)
- Ensure optimal water allocation from Angat Reservoir for MWSS in Metro Manila through real-time monitoring and coordination with Angat Technical Working Group (TWG).
- Reallocation of NIA's raw water allocation to Maynilad for exclusive use.
- Reactivation and operationalization of Standby Deep wells and construct new ones in the east concession area to augment water supply during El Niño.
- Enforce compliance with MOA on repurposing NIA's water rights and monitor water users for legal and illegal activities.
- Coordinate with dam operators nationwide for data submission and assessment.
- Implement a water conservation and recycling campaign in Metro Manila, addressing water wastage.
- Conduct leak repairs to reduce Non-Revenue Water.
- NWRB/NPC collect weather information from the PAGASA for the calculation of the inflow for the pre-releases.
- Observed and Monitored the water levels of the dam, and weather conditions for the pre-release plan.
- NWRB installed an automated real-time monitoring system that allows NWRB access data on water levels in aid of reservoir management.
- The Angat Hydropower Corp. took periodic assessments for the physical and functional defects of the dam and its facilities. Based on the report, no significant anomalies were observed in the structure of the Angat dam.
- The Review of the inflow and capacity of the spillway are also assessed.
- MWSS, NPC conduct periodic testing of the spillway gates (Ipo dam, Angat dam etc)
- Ipo Dam conducted water releases on July 24-26, 2024 (total of 231.22 cms) for flood mitigation
- The Angat TWG members discuss on releases of stored water in the Angat reservoir.
- The NPC coordinate with the concerned agencies regarding the flood operation.
- The NWRB chairs the Multi-Partite Monitoring Team for the New Centennial Water Source - Kaliwa Dam Project
- The NPC issues and disseminates notice on the dam discharge warning to the public especially downstream areas

The Water Security led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and , in their commitment to efficient water management, guarantees optimal water allocation from Angat Reservoir for MWSS. They engage in real-time monitoring and coordination with Angat Technical Working Group (TWG) to ensure effective operations. To further optimize water distribution, they initiate the reallocation of NIA's 2CMS raw water from Angat to Maynilad. In anticipation of water demands, Water Security activates Standby Deepwells and initiates the construction of new ones in the east concession area. In compliance with the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on water rights, they actively enforce regulations and closely monitor water users, ensuring adherence to established guidelines. To uphold a nationwide approach, Water Security coordinates with dam operators across the country, fostering collaboration for effective water resource management. In addition to their proactive measures, the Water Security implements water conservation campaigns, addresses leak repairs, and monitors water wastage specifically in Metro Manila. By adopting a multifaceted strategy, they aim to enhance water sustainability and resilience in the regions they oversee. |
